Sammy Hagar doesn’t consider himself a collector, but he has somehow amassed a “couple hundred” guitars. Although he originally wanted to be a drummer when he was growing up, his mother encouraged him to learn the guitar instead. “My mother told a story one time, she says ‘well, they [drums] were expensive and they were really loud and we had nowhere to put them in the house,’ so she was willing to support me playing guitar,” said Sammy.
The Red Rocker invited Mercury Insurance to San Rafael, Calif., to visit his warehouse, which features an office, music studio and his impressive car collection, for an exclusive look at his favorite guitars. Check out the video below for part one of our two-part interview where he shares stories about his music career, love of Les Paul guitars, how he acquired his collection and more.
