One of the scariest moments for parents is seeing their teen son or daughter setting out to drive alone. And understandably so. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data reports 3,114 young drivers between the ages of 16-20 died in fatal crashes in 2015, including 610 in California.
However, with some advance preparation, an established list of rules and expected driving behavior, as well as the right vehicle, parents can have more confidence when their teens get behind the wheel.
As parents, you don’t need to break the bank when it comes to selecting the right vehicle to insure for your teen driver. Mercury’s research and development team examined 2016 model year vehicles that received a 5-Star Safety Rating from NHTSA and cost less than $25,000 (MSRP) to come up with a list of the 10 safest and most affordable vehicles to insure for teen drivers.1
