Ride-hailing drivers working for Transportation Network Companies (TNC) like Uber and Lyft have the benefit of making their own schedule. They decide when, where and how long they work. And with the popularity of these services, the work is non-stop, making it an ideal way to supplement your income, or provide full time employment.
The extra cash and perks are attractive, but what about hidden costs of doing business, like auto insurance. Drivers are responsible for providing their own ride-hailing insurance while they are waiting to accept a fair. So, which vehicle is the most affordable to insure because not all cars are created equal, and when it comes to auto insurance and prices vary by make and model, meaning some vehicles are more costly to insure than others.
Companies like Uber or Lyft typically require their drivers to use four-door models no older than 10-years-old. Mercury Insurance recently took a look at the top 100 four-door make/model combinations released between 2005 and 2015 and compiled a list of the 10 most affordable vehicles to insure for Uber, Lyft and other ride-hailing services.
